I first met Howard Vincent in 1994, when we were both doing volunteer work at the Vancouver Crisis Centre.

 

I was a student and he was working as a counsellor at The Helping Spirit Lodge. We connected quite quickly and I think in that same moment determined that we would share the responsibility of telling his story.

 

We made a documentary, Breaking the Cycle. It was my final media project for the program I was doing at Capilano University.

 

It is about his life and the experiences he had around domestic violence.

It is a film that has been used extensively throughout libraries and prisons in Canada. It was also part of the inspiration to make the film Lifers: Stories from Prison.
